Napa Dentist Oral-conscious Sedation Dentistry
February 4, 2024
Oral-conscious sedation dentistry (OCS) keeps you calm and at ease during dental procedures. It may be beneficial for people with dental anxiety, hypersensitive teeth, fear of needles, or those undergoing extensive cosmetic and restorative treatment. With OCS, a person is given a sedative medication about an hour before the procedure begins. A local anesthetic to numb teeth and gums is still used; however, this is performed once a person is feeling comfortable with the medication. OCS is a moderate level of sedation, and unlike general anesthesia, a person is fully awake, aware of their surroundings, and able to communicate with Dr. Sasha and our dental assistants during their procedure.
